Maldives becomes first in South Asia to establish Starlink services

SpaceX Starlink has launched satellite internet services in the Maldives, making it the first South Asian nation to establish its internet services.

Customers in the Maldives can select from four service plans, as per information on the Starlink website. The plans offer speeds of up to 200Mbps at a cost of approximately USD65 per month. Customers are required to connect to the network and install a satellite dish kit. Specialised packages catering to businesses, vehicles, and individuals who frequently travel to different locations are also available.

Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna highlighted the significance of Starlink's internet services for an island nation like the Maldives. She also expressed optimism that satellite technology would contribute significantly to the country's progress.

Starlink is the largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver high-speed, low-latency broadband internet service. Starlink satellites can provide internet access anywhere on the planet, even in remote locations that lack traditional internet infrastructure. Currently, Starlink's internet service is accessible in over 60 countries worldwide.
