Gov't to hold familiarisation sessions on Construction Act

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure is preparing to hold online familiarisation sessions on the rules and regulations related to the Construction Act.

The purpose of the sessions is to increase awareness of the rules and regulations for the public and stakeholders in the construction industry. Interested individuals can register by October 1 and details of the sessions will be published soon.

The Construction Act was ratified in 2017 for the purpose of regulating and upholding standards in the construction industry. As such, the planning ministry is responsible for setting and enforcing regulations pertaining to safety standards, construction procedures, training requirements, contractor classification, and other necessary matters. The act encompasses the formulation of the building code, a fine system for non-compliance, prioritisation of Maldivian workers, and provision for compensation.
