Foreign Minister arrives in Sri Lanka on an official visit

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid has arrived in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on an official visit.

During his visit, Minister Shahid will lead the delegation of the Maldives at the Fourth Session of the Maldives–Sri Lanka Joint Commission, which will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. In addition, Minister Shahid will pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Dinesh Gunawardena, and meet his counterpart Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Ali Sabry.

The Maldives–Sri Lanka Joint Commission was established in 1984 with the primary aim of strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, including in trade and investment, defence, tourism, fisheries, education, health, employment, youth, sports and skills development, and consular and cultural affairs.

The Third Session of the Joint Commission was hosted by the Maldives in Male' in 2017.
