Planning Minister praises efforts for maintaining ruling coalition

Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated that the current administration is the only government to have maintained its coalition. He made the remark at a ceremony held to inaugurate the harbour in Dharanboodhoo, Faafu Atoll.

At the function, Minister Aslam said that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been able to fulfill his most important political pledge of maintaining the ruling government coalition while overseeing major developmental initiatives. He said that no other administration has been able to maintain a coalition, noting that the coalitions formed by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in 2008 and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in 2013 collapsed within a year. He added that the current administration has commenced 561 developmental projects and many of them have been completed.

During his visit to Dharanboodhoo, President Solih inaugurated the newly developed harbour on the island. The previous harbour developed in 2008 did not solve the travel and transport issues on the island and the administration contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop a spacious habour that is convenient to use.

MTCC completed the development of the Dharanboodhoo harbour at a cost of USD2.6 million. The scope of the project included dredging and excavation operations, construction of a breakwater, a quay wall, a 140m revetment, groynes, and installation of a 2,641sqm harbor pavement, construction of a ramp, a bridge, and installation of harbour lights.
