Maldives and South Korea discuss strengthening relations

The Maldives and South Korea have discussed ways to further strengthen the relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. The discussions were held by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel during his meeting with Lee Jin-bok, the Special Envoy of the President of South Korea and Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs.

At the meeting, State Minister Khaleel and Special Envoy Lee discussed ways to further strengthen the relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest. State Minister Khaleel expressed his appreciation for the generous contributions of the government of South Korea, including through agencies such as the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to the development of the Maldives.

Additionally, State Minister Khaleel and Special Envoy Lee reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation in areas such as tourism, education, and economic development and collaboration in advancing interests in areas of mutual concern, both bilaterally and internationally.

The Maldives and South Korea are also due to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation. The Maldives established diplomatic relations with South Korea on November 30, 1966.
