Faresmaathoda Airport to boost economy

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the opening of Faresmaathoda Airport will boost economic development in the region. He made the remark after inaugurating the airport at a ceremony held in Faresmaathoda, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih said the future of Faresmaathoda looks promising with the opening of its new airport. He said that the communities of every island in the southernmost atolls, except for one, can now reach an airport within 20-30 minutes, as envisioned in his administration's air connectivity policy. He emphasised that developing airports across the country will enhance air connectivity, increase jobs, and enliven economic activities.

Additionally, President Solih noted the immense support and assistance of the island's community to the airport project, which he said had a positive impact on the project's outcome. He added that a centralised powerhouse has been established, coupled with an enhanced electricity network and that the administration will complete the sewerage project soon.

Furthermore, President Solih said that the administration will develop the road between the airport and the residential area after completing the causeway project. He added that the airport will create new jobs and generate economic activities in the region, ensuring a bright and promising future. He thanked residents of Faresmaathoda, state institutions, and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for the successful completion of the project.
