Immigration issues record number of passports on July 7

Maldives Immigration has revealed that it issued a record number of passports on July 7.

Immigration stated that a total of 596 passports were issued on July 7, as the passport service continued until midnight. The passports were issued to individuals who had made their payments before 1000hrs on July 7.

Immigration extended its working hours to 2130hrs last month to respond to the high demand for passports due to the Eid and school holidays. The number of Maldivians traveling abroad has also increased due to the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions in various countries.

Immigration stated that it previously received 200 daily passport applications but is now receiving around 800 applications. It added that it aims to keep providing quick and efficient services to the public.
