Maldives condemns BJP officials’ derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

The Government of the Maldives has condemned the derogatory remarks made against the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by some officials of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of India.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government stated it unreservedly condemns all and any action that purports to pervert the true nature and teachings of Islam and attempts to demean the Holy Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). In this regard, the government stated it is deeply concerned by the derogatory remarks made by some officials of BJP, India, insulting the Holy Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) and the religion of Islam.

Furthermore, the Maldivian government welcomed the denouncement by the Government of India of the derogatory remarks by the concerned officials and the prompt action taken by the BJP against those officials.
