Public Service Media (PSM) has signed an agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development to conduct an apprenticeship programme under the COVID-19 Income Support Project. The agreement was signed by Managing Director of PSM Ali Khalid and Minister of State for Economic Development Neeza Imad.

At the agreement signing ceremony, Managing Director Ali Khalid said that participants will receive a level-3 journalism certificate and the opportunity to work at PSM after completing the programme. Additionally, Programme Coordinator of Maldives Media Institute (MMI) Fathimath Hussain said that participants will learn to multi-task and learn to write reports, operate cameras, and edit videos during the programme.

Under the agreement, PSM will conduct a six-month apprenticeship programme to give individuals interested in working in media the opportunity to train and gain work experience while earning a monthly compensation of USD320. The company will be training apprentices in the field of journalism, TV and radio production, as well as news anchoring and presenting.

The first round of the programme began on March 29 with 16 participants in the batch. The training programmes are being conducted by PSM’s subsidiary MMI.
