Defence Minister praises the President's women empowerment efforts

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi has praised President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for his work towards the empowerment of women.

In a message published on the 130th anniversary of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), Minister Mariya said President Solih has shown his commitment for women’s empowerment by appointing a woman as the head of the defence ministry for the first time in the country’s history. The minister noted that President Solih, as the commander-in-chief, is tasked with the highest responsibility of protecting the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives and that the Maldives military remains vigilant in defence of the country.

Furthermore, Minister Mariya expressed her gratitude to President Solih on behalf of all women in the country for showing his trust and commitment, through action, by appointing a female minister to fulfill such an important task. She also said the progress and accolades received by MNDF is due to the special consideration given by President Solih to the military service.

The administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made significant improvements in the past three years by providing Maldivian military officers with opportunities to train in top military academies abroad as well as providing opportunities for female officers to climb the military ranks.
