All practicing lawyers have been requested to register at the Bar Council of the Maldives.
The bar council stated it is compiling a comprehensive list of all practicing lawyers and that details will be published on the website, which will be a reference point for those providing and seeking legal services.
The council stated lawyers can register online by clicking a registration link and filling out an application form. This application form is to be filled out by all lawyers providing legal services through a law firm, legal practice, state institution, or as an in-house counsel in the private sector, or as a lawyer working at a non-governmental organisation (NGO) or a lawyer partnering with such an NGO.
The council stated the information provided will be used to prepare a Master Register of Local Law Practitioners and pertinent details of which will be published as a public document. The details provided by applicants will not be published in the public document.
The bar council is the professional body in the Maldives that regulates the profession of barristers including issuing permits, protecting the rights of lawyers, and ensuring lawyers are professional and the jurisdiction is run truthfully and just.
