Islamic Ministry declares April 2 as the first day of Ramadan in the Maldives

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has declared April 2 as the first day of the month of Ramadan in the Maldives this year.

In a statement released to declare the status of the moon, the Islamic ministry said the moon for the month of Ramadan has been sighted in some islands of the Maldives, as well some other Islamic countries. Therefore, the ministry said April 2 has been officially declared as the first day of Ramadan for the Hijri year 1443.

The sighting of the new crescent moon signifies the official first day of the fasting month. Declaration of the moon sighting is carried out by a special committee consisting of astronomical experts.
