ECM urges parties to abide by the law when conducting activities

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) urges political parties to abide by the law when conducting their activities. ECM made the statement after Maldives Police Service (MPS) issued a warning against an opposition rally planned for March 25, that violates the Freedom of Peaceful Assembly Act.

In a statement, ECM said the Political Parties Act grants the opportunity for parties to conduct their activities without violating the Constitution and the relevant laws and regulations. ECM urged political parties to stay within legal boundaries when conducting rallies and other activities. The commission also called on parties to respect diplomatic relations established by the country and to refrain from any activities that would disrupt the peace and security of the nation.

ECM stated it would continue supporting all political parties on activities that are conducted in accordance to laws and regulations.
