Male’ City Council has contracted three parties to install CCTV cameras in mosques located in Male’ and Villimale’.
The project to install CCTV cameras in mosques of Male’ was announced in November. The purpose of the project is to prevent theft and other acts that violate the sanctity of mosques.
Speaking at a press conference, Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said three parties have been contracted for the installation of CCTV cameras in mosques. The mayor said cables are now being installed for the purpose of CCTV surveillance. He said the operational control room of the CCTV cameras will be located in a facility of the city council, adding the footage will be shared with Maldives Police Service (MPS) if required.
Male’ City Council is also undertaking the renovation of mosques ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. The city council oversees the maintenance of 42 mosques in Male’ City.
