President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has conveyed his condolences to the family of the late Ibrahim Rauf, a recipient of the National Award for Public Service. He conveyed his condolences after meeting with family members at the funeral.
Ibrahim Rauf passed away at the age of 59 while receiving treatment at ADK Hospital. He received the National Award for Public Service in December last year for serving the country for 38 years.
President Solih awarded Rauf at a special ceremony held to mark National Unity Day 2021. Ibrahim Rauf joined government service in 1982, and began his service at the Kaafu Atoll Office in 1984, serving as the secretary and assistant to the atoll chief. He later served as the Vice President of the Male' Atoll Council for two consecutive terms, and as President of the Male' Atoll Council for another term.
He is notable for being heavily involved in the development of the atoll and monitoring the island councils and mentoring newly elected members of the councils and women's development committees (WDCs).
