Parliamentarian Rashid takes oath of office

Parliamentarian Mohamed Rashid has taken the oath of office at a special ceremony at the Parliament of the Maldives. The oath for the newly elected parliamentarian was administered by Supreme Court Justice Husnu Suood in the presence of Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

Parliamentarian Rashid took part in the parliamentary sitting on February 9 after taking his oath. Rashid, from the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), won the parliamentary seat for the Komandoo constituency in the by-election held on February 5.

As per the results, Rashid won the seat with 1,441 votes, while Moosa Fathuhee Adam from the opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) received 1,161 votes, and Abdul Hannan Idrees from Maldives National Party (MNP) received 323 votes.

The by-election for the Komandoo constituency was held due to the passing of the late Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed, who had also been representing the constituency from MDP.
