The Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations and Other International Organisations in Geneva and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on diplomatic training and the use of geospatial information technologies.
The MoU was signed by the Permanent Representative of Maldives to the United Nations Office at Geneva Dr. Asim Ahmed and the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director Nikhil Seth at a ceremony held at the UNITAR Office in Geneva.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the agreement focuses on diplomatic training skills development and Climate Change Resilience, Disaster Management, and Development using geospatial information technologies. In this regard, diplomatic training would greatly contribute to the further development of the Maldives Foreign Service cadre, which is essential to effectively pursue the foreign policy objectives.
Meanwhile, the use of geospatial information technologies provides an innovative and effective tool to understand and address the challenges of climate change and environmental vulnerability.
