The Teachers Association of Maldives (TAM) has stated the 2022 Presidential Address delivered by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has brightened hope for the education sector of the Maldives.
In a statement released following the announcement by the president to increase the salary of teachers and educators, TAM said the Presidential Address has renewed hope for the education sector and revitalised spirits in the efforts of building future generations. TAM said it welcomes the decision by the government to increase the salaries of teachers and educators, noting it would be a major boost to retaining highly skilled and qualified teachers and build more interest for the profession.
In his address, President Solih described teachers as those charged with the most challenging part of nation-building and said human resource development in the education sector is at the forefront of the administration's policies. He announced the decision of the government to raise the salaries of school teachers by 56%.
