Government coalition parties have praised the 2022 Presidential Address delivered by President Ibrahim Solih at the Parliament of the Maldives.
In a statement, government coalition partner Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), led by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom, stated the Presidential Address was highly encouraging for the nation. MRM noted the points highlighted in the address provided confidence that the targets set by the coalition government for reform are being achieved.
MRM further stated the strong commitment given by President Solih to defend the independence, sovereignty and religious unity of the nation brings relief to the hearts of Maldivians. MRM highlighted the efforts being undertaken by the administration to create awareness on Islamic values and principles, noting it is an important step in eliminating extremist ideologies and strengthen the religious unity and harmony in the country.
Furthermore, MRM praised the implementation of the minimum wage policy by the administration, noting it fulfills the pledge made to guarantee fair and just wages for educated youth who begin their services to the nation. MRM also expressed their praise for the economic diversification and development plans highlighted during the Presidential Address, and assured the party’s full support and cooperation to achieve the goals of the government.
The Presidential address was also praised by Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim. Speaking at a campaign event held in Foakaidhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, Qasim called the address the best presidential address delivered by a Maldivian president. The JP leader noted the address included all the important points that are linked to the hopes and dreams of the Maldivian people. He reiterated the commitment of JP to fulfill the pledges made by President Solih to provide better lives for the Maldivian people.
In his Presidential Address, President Solih highlighted the plans of his administration for each individual sector and the strategies and policies in place for economic progress. He reiterated the commitment of his administration to addressing the most pertinent needs of the public and ensuring the well-being of the whole population.
