ECM to accept electoral complaints on by-election day

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has made arrangements to allow the submission of electoral complaints during the parliamentary and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) by-elections to be held on February 5.

ECM is conducting the parliamentary by-election for Komandoo constituency in Shaviyani Atoll and the WDC by-elections for Vilufushi, Thaa Atoll and Gemanafushi, Gaafu Alifu Atoll on February 5. ECM said complaints regarding the electoral process can be submitted on the by-election day by contacting the ECM Complaints Committee.

ECM had also previously opened the submission of complaints regarding the by-elections. ECM had revealed it received 3 complaints regarding the Komandoo by-election, all of which came from the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

More than 3,300 people are eligible to vote in the parliamentary by-election for Komandoo constituency, which consists of Komandoo, Foakaidhoo and Maroshi. Six ballot boxes will be placed for the by-election.
