Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has revealed the Government of Turkey has decided to provide assistance to develop an Islamic Centre in Hulhumale’. The minister made the announcement in a press conference held following official talks held between the Maldives and Turkey, as part of the official visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu to the Maldives.
Speaking at the press conference, Minister Shahid said discussions were held with the Turkish government on the ongoing development projects in the Maldives. Minister Shahid said the Turkish government had agreed to assist the development of an Islamic Centre in Hulhumale’, following a proposal by the Maldivian government. He noted this is testament to the solidary and brotherhood shared by the two Islamic nations.
The Islamic Centre in Hulhumale’ will become the fourth such centre in the Maldives. Islamic centres have also been established in Male’, Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll and Ungoofaaru in Raa Atoll.
