More islands placed under monitoring

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed 32 islands are under monitoring due to the deteriorating situation of COVID-19. The number of islands placed under monitoring has been increasing day by day.

The most recent island placed under monitoring is Kendhoo, Baa Atoll. The two islands under monitoring for the longest time are Maafushi in Kaafu Atoll and Ihavandhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll. The two islands were placed under monitoring in December 2021.

A total of 30 islands have been placed under monitoring in January. The islands currently under monitoring include the most populous islands in the Maldives. These include Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Kulhudhuffushi City, and Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll.

The island councils have been strengthening precautionary measures in major islands due to the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases.
