Turkey to provide visa-free travel for Maldivians

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has announced Turkey plans to sign an agreement to provide visa-free travel for Maldivians. He made the remarks at the joint press conference held with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu.

Speaking at the joint press conference, Minister Shahid noted that Maldivians currently have the option of accepting e-visas when travelling to Turkey . He said Turkey has now accepted the proposal from the Government of the Maldives to provide visa-free travel for Maldivians.

Also at the conference, Minister Çavuşoğlu gave his commitment to support the candidature of the Maldives for the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the term of 2023-2025. Both ministers also reaffirmed the strength of relations between the Maldives and Turkey and gave their commitment to working closely on issues of mutual interest.

During his official visit, Minister Çavuşoğlu held official talks and signed five memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in the key areas of foreign relations, trade and economic corporation, environment, agriculture, and cultural cooperation. He also paid a courtesy call on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih before concluding his official visit to the Maldives.
