COVID-19 cases increase, 30 islands placed under monitoring

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has placed 30 islands under monitoring amid the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases in the Maldives. COVID-19 cases have rapidly increased in the islands over the past few weeks.

The islands currently under monitoring include the most populous islands in the Maldives. These include Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Kulhudhuffushi City, and Guraidhoo, Kaafu atoll. The active cases in these areas are above 100.
Laamu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and Haa Dhaalu Atoll have the highest number of islands under monitoring, with three islands from each atoll under monitoring, according to statistics.

Meanwhile, Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll has been under monitoring for the longest time. The island was placed under monitoring on December 30, 2021.

Maldives has so far recorded 122,777 COVID-19 cases.
