ECM receives three complaints regarding Komandoo by-election

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has revealed it has received 3 complaints in relation to the parliamentary by-election of Komandoo constituency, to be held in February.

ECM had established a Complaints Bureau to collect complaints regarding the procedures in place ahead of the Komandoo by-election. ECM said it has received three complaints regarding the by-election so far, all of which were submitted by the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM). ECM said the complaints were submitted in relation to comments made by a competitor during a campaign event.

ECM said the final preparations are underway for the February 5 by-election. ECM is currently undertaking the re-registration of voters for the by-election.

The by-election is being held following the passing of late Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed, who had been representing the Komandoo constituency in the parliament. The by-election is contested by candidates from the main ruling party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the opposition PPM, as well as Maldives National Party (MNP).
