Heritage minister tests positive for COVID-19

Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet, Minister Yumna revealed she is currently in isolation following the positive test result, adding she is experiencing fever, sore throat, and body pain. She expressed concerns for her parents, advising the public to take precautionary measures to ensure COVID-19 does not spread among the elderly, children, and high-risk individuals.

Earlier, her father, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom tested positive for COVID-19 and sought treatment.

Moreover, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has been tested for COVID-19. President Solih said he was found positive for COVID-19 after taking a PCR test before travelling to the atolls. The president said he is now in self-isolation in his official residence and assured he is in good health.

The number of positive COVID-19 cases has significantly increased in the Maldives, with around 2,000 cases reported each day and 70% of the cases reported in the Greater Male' Region.
