President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has stated the government needs 10 more years to allow President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to continue bringing positive changes to the country. He made the remarks at a campaign event in Foakaidhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, held for Mohamed Rashid, the candidate of MDP in the parliamentary by-election of Komandoo constituency.
At the event, Nasheed, who is also the Speaker of Parliament, highlighted the positive changes the government has brought to the country, including the free degree programme and the implementation of the minimum wage. Nasheed noted 54 students from Foakaidhoo are completing their education through the free-degree programme. He said MDP is not only interested in the development of infrastructure and is also focused on providing socio-economic benefits to the average citizen. He vowed that the main ruling party will continue working to provide more financial opportunities to the residents of the Komandoo constituency.
Furthermore, Nasheed said the highest priorities of the government are higher education and establishing basic services across the country. He said MDP's policy for national development is to transform the entire country, and that the party needs 10 more years to reach that goal.
Additionally, Nasheed criticised the opposition's India Out campaign led by former President Abdulla Yameen. He urged individuals not to participate in the campaign, as it will only result in a negative outcome for Maldivians.
