The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has opened re-registration for voters who wish to vote in the parliamentary by-election for the Komandoo constituency in Shaviyani Atoll.
In addition to the parliamentary by-election, ECM will be holding by-elections for the Women's Development Committee (WDC) of Vilufushi, Thaa Atoll, and Gemanafushi, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll on on February 5. ECM revealed re-registration has been opened for voters for the constituencies until May 24.
The most competitive election is the parliamentary seat for the Komandoo constituency. As such, Mohamed Rasheed from the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Moosa Fathuhee Adam from the main opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), and Abdul Hannan Idrees from the newly formed Maldives National Party (MNP) are contesting for the parliamentary seat.
A total of 3,316 people are eligible to vote in the Komandoo constituency, which includes the islands of Komandoo, Foakaidhoo, and Maroshi. ECM has decided to place six ballot boxes for the election.
