Maldivian fashion designers invited to join EXPO 2020 Dubai

Ministry of Economic Development has invited Maldivian fashion designers to showcase their crafts at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The economic ministry stated it will be accepting proposals from fashion designers until January 26. The ministry stated two fashion designers will be chosen based on their crafts and that the ministry will cover part of the cost of showcasing their crafts at Expo 2020.

Expo 2020 is being held in Dubai, UAE for a duration of six months from October 2021 to March 2022. This year's expo theme is Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, which provides a platform to showcase destinations, the latest innovations, and investment opportunities from around the world under the themes of sustainability, mobility, and opportunity. In this regard, exhibitors from over 192 countries are participating in Expo 2020, with an estimated 25 million visitors expected to visit the event during its duration.

Expo 2020 is the first world expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia and the first to be hosted by an Arab nation. The Maldives pavilion is promoting the country under the sustainability theme by showcasing the unique beauty of the destination and sharing investment opportunities available in the Maldives. The pavilion is also showcasing crafts and products that represent Maldivian culture and history as well as sustainable practices that address climate change and the success in co-existing with the environment.

In addition to the economic ministry, the Maldives is represented at the pavilion by the Ministry of Tourism, and the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). The economic ministry stated over 40 Maldivian artists and entrepreneurs are participating in the expo.
