The revenue from goods imported and exported to the Maldives has increased by 23% in December 2021.
The statistics published by Maldives Customs Service show the state generated an income of USD 19 million from imports and exports in December 2020 while the figure increased to USD 24 million in December 2021.
Moreover, the statistics show that goods worth USD 291 million were imported to the Maldives in December 2021, which is an increase of 78% compared to the goods worth USD 161 million that were imported to the Maldives in December 2020.
The highest number of goods were imported to the Maldives from the UAE, China, India, and Oman last month. As such, goods worth USD 46 million were imported from the UAE, and goods worth USD 37 million were imported from China. Further, goods worth USD 34 million were imported from India, and goods worth USD 32 million were imported from Oman last month.
Customs said machinery, electric equipment, food items, and oil products were among the most imported goods last month.
Meanwhile, the Maldives exported goods worth USD 21 million in 2021, which is a decrease of 28% compared to the goods worth USD 29 million that were exported in December 2020. The highest number of goods were exported from the Maldives last month to Thailand, Germany, Mauritius, Japan, and the UK. As such, 37% of the goods were exported to Thailand, 16% were exported to Germany and 9% of the goods were exported to Mauritius. The main product exported from the Maldives is frozen fish, according to Customs.
