Discussions held to boost cooperation of MNDF and Bangladesh Navy

Maldives and Bangladesh have discussed ways to further boost cooperation between Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and Bangladesh Navy, including the provision of training opportunities for MNDF officers and sailors. The discussions were held during a courtesy call by the Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal on Minister of Defence Mariya Didi.

During the meeting held at the main MNDF headquarters, Defence Minister Mariya noted the warm relationship between the Maldives and Bangladesh and expressed hope for continued cooperation in the defence and security sector, especially in the maritime domain.

It was the first visit to the Maldives made by a Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy, which signifies the enhanced relationship between the armed forces of both countries, and reflects the strength and solidity of the policy implemented by the Government of the Maldives regarding International Defence Diplomacy and Cooperation.

Following the meeting, the defence minister spoke to the spouse of Admiral Shaheen, and the President of Bangladesh Navy Family Welfare Association Monira Rowshan Akhter over the phone, conveying her best wishes and a warm welcome to the Maldives.
