Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated the government will listen to the citizens and continue to meet their expectations. He made the remarks while speaking at a campaign event in Komandoo, Shaviyani Atoll, held for Mohamed Rashid, the candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in the parliamentary by-election of Komandoo constituency.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Naseem said the government has a huge advantage due to the main ruling party having a majority in the Parliament. The vice president noted the previous government also had the advantage during the 18th parliament session but that it had failed to result in any benefit to the people. He said MDP's agenda after winning the parliament majority was to begin empowering citizens with the decentralisation system. He added the current government knows and respects the will and expectations of its people, and that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is continuing to meet their expectations.
Furthermore, Vice President Naseem highlighted the developmental efforts in Komandoo, Foakaidhoo, and Maroshi in Shaviyani Atoll. He said President Solih is fulfilling the purpose of the government, which is to meet the expectations of citizens quickly and efficiently. He acknowledged the government was unable to carry out its work as initially planned in the past two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, he said the government has shown its resolve by managing the economy and continuing its development projects.
During the trip, Vice President Naseem toured the Komandoo Health Centre and inspected the sites of the shore protection and rectification project on the island as well as the Komandoo-Mathikomandoo rectification project.
