Only 10% of students have not completed vaccine

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed 90% of the students have completed the two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

HPA said more than 32,000 students have completed the COVID-19 vaccine so far. As such, a total of 32,358 children from 218 schools have completed the two doses as part of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination programme, including 21,133 students who were vaccinated in the atolls and 11,225 students who were vaccinated in Male' City.

36,029 students have completed the first dose of the vaccine, including 12,923 students in Male' and 23,106 students from the atolls, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Education. HPA has been administering vaccines approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for children above the age of 12. As such, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the Pfizer vaccine is administered to students between the ages of 12 and 17 across the country.

The education ministry has said all individuals who access the school has completed the two doses of the vaccine to ensure the safety of the school environment. As such, all school employees have been instructed to complete the vaccine doses, and parents who had not completed the doses are not allowed to attend school premises.

The COVID-19 vaccination programme for school students was commenced on August 15, 2020.
