JSC receives over 400 disciplinary cases against judges during 2021

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has revealed it received more than 400 disciplinary cases related to judges during 2021.

As per the annual statistics of JSC, the commission received 404 disciplinary cases against judges during 2021. JSC stated it had reviewed and completed proceedings of 395 such cases during the year, including some cases that were carried forward from the previous year. JSC revealed 42 cases remain pending at the commission.

Furthermore, JSC stated 77 different investigation committees had carried out 88 investigations during 2021, of which 33 were completed. JSC only filed one dismissal motion against a judge to the Parliament of the Maldives last year, which was the dismissal motion of Criminal Court Judge Ismail Rasheed.

Furthermore, JSC had taken disciplinary action against 14 judges during the year. JSC also ruled that 18 disciplinary cases submitted against judges could not be proven.
