Teachers and students urged to return home from vacation as soon as possible

Ministry of Education has urged teachers and students who are spending holidays away from their island or region of residence to return home as soon as possible.

The education ministry urged teachers and students to return home in order to minimize the impact of the new wave of COVID-19 on schools. The ministry said with the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country, especially in the Greater Male’ Region, students and teachers are advised to stay safe and ensure the new wave of cases does not have a major impact on schools.

Schools were closed on multiple occasions over the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with many students spending several months at home taking online classes. Students of all grades returned to school at the start of the new academic year which began in August last year. Schools are currently closed for its semester break and will reopen next week.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has tightened restrictions in the country once again, with COVID-19 cases on the rise again due to the Omicron variant. The education ministry has urged the public to follow the instructions of HPA in order to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission and to avoid further disruptions to the academic calendar.
