President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has departed on a trip to Komandoo, Shaviyani Atoll.
The president is visiting Komandoo to launch the campaign of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s candidate for the parliamentary by-election of Komandoo consitutency. The president is accompanied on this trip by several cabinet ministers, senior officials of state-owned companies and parliamentarians.
The by-election for the parliamentary seat of Komandoo constituency is being held following the passing of the late Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed on December 13, 2021. The by-election is set to be held on February 5.
Candidates from three parties will be contesting in the Komandoo by-election. The candidates contesting in the election are Mohamed Rashid from MDP, Moosa Fathuhee Adam from the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Abdul Hannan Idris from Maldives National Party (MNP).
