MIRA requests to register tax refund accounts

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has requested to register an account to be used for refunding purposes if additional funds are required to be refunded under the tax regulations.

In a circular issued regarding the refund of amounts paid in excess, MIRA has instructed taxpayers to register an account to deposit the refund for the purpose of refunding the additional payments made in accordance with Article 69 of the Tax Administration Regulation. MIRA stated the account can be registered via its online portal. MIRA added only registered accounts will be considered as the MIRA Connect Primary Account of the taxpayer. Valid documents clearly stating the owner of the account and account number must be uploaded to the portal, according to MIRA.

In addition, if the account requested for registration is not the own account of a taxpayer, the company's board resolution or the permission of refund must be uploaded to the portal.

MIRA will refund the taxpayers who have submitted tax returns or made additional payments as a result of an amendment, according to regulations.
