ECM expresses concern over lack of candidates for WDC by-elections

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has expressed concern over the lack of candidates applying to contest for vacant seats in Women’s Development Committee (WDCs) of islands, for which by-elections have been opened.

Vice President of ECM Ismail Habeeb revealed no candidates have applied to contest for the WDC by-elections of Thakandhoo, Vilufushi and Gemanafushi, to be held on February 5. Noting the deadline to submit candidacy is January 5, Habeeb urged interested candidates to submit their applications before the deadline.

The WDC by-elections are being held on the same day as the parliamentary by-election for Komandoo constituency.
