The Civil Court of the Maldives has revealed it completed more than 4,600 cases during the year 2021.
In its annual report, the Civil Court revealed it had carried out proceedings of 7,370 cases last year, including 2,756 cases carried forward from the previous year and 4,614 new cases submitted during the year. The Civil Court revealed 4,643 cases were completed during the year, leaving 2,729 cases pending at the end of the year.
The Civil Court further revealed its Dispute Resolution Division had received 3,299 cases in 2021, of which 66.9% were completed. Meanwhile, the Hulhumale’ Division of the court had completed 274 cases last year, leaving 75 pending.
The Civil Court of the Maldives is the superior court that presides over all civil cases apart from the cases which fall under the jurisdiction of the Family Court of the Maldives. Despite the complications and challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the court was able to report a high completion rate of cases submitted to the court.
