Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has announced the voter re-registration for the parliamentary by-election of Komandoo constituency will be opened on January 20.
The by-election for the parliamentary seat of Komandoo constituency is being held following the passing of the late Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed on December 13. ECM announced voter re-registration for the February 5 by-election will be opened on January 20. Individuals from the Komandoo constituency who will not be in the constituency or in Male’ on the election date are required to re-register to vote in the by-election.
Candidates from three parties will be contesting in the Komandoo by-election. ECM carried out the draw for candidate numbers on December 30.
Candidate number 1 was allocated to Mohamed Rashid from the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). Candidate number 2 was allocated to Moosa Fathuhee Adam from the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and candidate number 3 was allocated to Abdul Hannan Idris from Maldives National Party (MNP).
Six ballot boxes will be placed for the Komandoo by-election, including one in Male’. ECM revealed 3,316 people are eligible to vote in the by-election.
