Gov't seeks private training providers to conduct 15 courses

Ministry of Higher Education has sought private training providers to conduct 15 courses of the Skills for a Resilient Workforce programme.

The programme is a government initiative to develop the skills of the youth workforce needed for the Maldivian labour market. It is based on the employment market research conducted by the higher education ministry and launched under the assistance of the World Bank.

The ministry has announced its plan to conduct 15 courses of the programme in 2022 which includes level-three national certificate courses in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT), agriculture, tourism, and construction. Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan said the courses aim to provide the necessary training for students to take advantage of the many job opportunities available in the Maldives, especially in the tourism sector.

The minister expressed hope the government will receive assistance from the private sector in developing skilled workers in the expanding sectors of ICT, tourism, and construction. He also said 83 students had completed courses in the first round of courses of the Skills for a Resilient Workforce programme.

Parties interested in conducting the courses are required to submit their applications before January 17. Private training providers have been conducting courses of the programme since 2021 and have graduated 83 students.
