The agreement of the project was signed by the Managing Director of AgroNat Haroon Rasheed and the Managing Director of Energy Management Systems Ahmed Ameen.
AgroNat has decided to establish cold storage facilities in nine islands. As such, efforts to establish cold storage facilities commenced in Gan and Isdhoo in Laamu Atoll and Magoodhoo in Faafu Atoll.
Meanwhile, the project in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, and Kinolhas in Raa Atoll is undergoing the bidding process. AgroNat has also planned to establish cold storage facilities in Manadhoo in Noonu Atoll, Nilandhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and Hulhumeedhoo in Addu City.
Following the establishment of cold storage facilities in different parts of the country, AgroNat believes the local produce will be easily transported to these facilities, and the products required for resorts and businesses will be wholesaled from these areas.
The state-owned company revealed the cold storage facilities will enable the products of farmers to be marketed freshly. AgroNat has been successfully carrying out contract farming projects with over 700 local farmers to develop Maldivian agriculture.
