President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured to find suitable solutions to the concerns raised by Maafushi Island Council and Women's Development Committee (WDC). He made the assurance at a meeting held with the island council and WDC where the council members shed light on the most pertinent issues and developmental needs of the residents.
The meeting was held in the Secretariat of the Maafushi Island Council as part of his one-day visit to the island. Some of the issues raised by the council members included the need for proper waste management, solutions for beach erosion, staff shortages and upgrading the council secretariat, and proper management of mosques. They also discussed with the president concerns related to the harbour extension project and the development of additional classrooms at the school.
Meanwhile, the WDC spoke about the need for the administration's assistance in seeking financial aid and shared concerns, including the need for a volleyball court and futsal ground dedicated to women.
Furthermore, during the visit, President Solih attended a ceremony held to hand over the land extension and picnic island to the Maafushi Island Council. The president also inaugurated the new football stadium developed on the island.
He then visited Maafushi Prison and Maafushi Health Centre and met with the management and staff of the institutions.
