Maldives Third-Way Democrats (MTD) has decided not to contest in the parliamentary by-election for Komandoo constituency.
MTD had earlier opened the opportunity for its members to seek the party’s ticket for the by-election to be held on February 5, 2022. However, following a council meeting held on December 27, the party has decided not to contest in the by-election.
Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) opened candidacy for the by-election of Komandoo constituency following the passing of the late Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed on December 13. The late parliamentarian had been representing the constituency in the parliament from the main ruling party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Three parties have announced their candidates for the by-election. MDP will be represented in the by-election by Mohamed Rashid, while the main opposition party Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) will be represented by Moosa Fathuhee Adam. Meanwhile, Maldives National Party (MNP) has announced Abdul Hannan Idris will be contesting in the by-election on the party’s ticket.
ECM announced the by-election for the Komandoo seat will be held on February 5, 2022. The candidacy for the seat has been opened until December 30, 2021.
