Russian leisure airline, Nordwind has commenced direct flights to Maldives.
The airline commenced operations in the Maldives in collaboration with Resort Life, a Maldivian company that operates tour operators in Russia. Nordwind commenced charter flights to the Maldives with the first flight arriving on December 26.
The commencement of Russian Nordwind flights to the Maldives is expected to increase the number of tourist arrivals from Russia.
Russia currently attracts a large number of tourists to the Maldives, currently having the second-highest market to the Maldives. So far, 214,232 tourist arrivals have been recorded from Russia.
While the Maldives is experiencing the peak season of tourism, many airlines are currently operating to the country. Statistics released by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) show that the number of charter flights has doubled compared to the number of charter flights arriving before the COVID-19 pandemic.
A large number of private jets are also currently arriving in the Maldives.
