MTD to contest in Komandoo By-Election

Maldives Third-way Democrats (MTD) has announced it will be contesting in the parliamentary by-election for the Komandoo constituency. MTD stated it has opened the opportunity for its members to receive the party's ticket to run in the by-election.

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) opened candidacy for the by-election of Komandoo constituency following the passing of the late Parliamentarian Hussain Waheed on December 13. The late parliamentarian had been representing the constituency in the parliament from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

In addition to MDP, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), and the Maldives National Party (MNP) have announced their candidates for the by-election. As such, MDP revealed only one candidate, Mohamed Rashid, had applied to contest in the party's primary for the by-election.
As a result, MDP announced Rashid has secured the party's ticket for the by-election.

Meanwhile, PPM announced Moosa Fathuhee Adam will contest for the seat from the opposition party. Fathuhee had also secured the ticket after being the only candidate for PPM's primary.

Furthermore, MNP also announced only one candidate, Abdul Hannan Idris, applied to contest for the party's primary. As a result, he has been announced as MNP's candidate for the Komandoo seat in the parliament.

ECM will be accepting applications for candidacy until December 30 and will hold the by-election on February 5.
