Thailand suspends “Test and Go” travel scheme due to rise in COVID-19 cases

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed the Government of Thailand has restricted direct entry to the country through its “Test and Go” scheme, due to the rise in cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.

The foreign ministry revealed the Thai government has informed of new measures being enforced starting from December 22 due to the spread of COVID-19 Omicron variant. As such, the ministry noted the Test and Go scheme, which allowed travellers to skip quarantine, has been suspended on December 22. However, individuals travelling to Thailand before January 10, 2022 who have received their Thailand Pass QR code by December 22 will be able to travel under the scheme. Individuals who applied for the Thailand Pass before December 22 would also be able to travel under the scheme once they receive their Thailand Pass approval QR code.

The foreign ministry stated individuals applying for Thailand Pass after December 22 would have to travel under the Alternative Quarantine or Phuket Sand Box scheme. The ministry urged Maldivians travelling to Thailand to clarify the latest information on the COVID-19 measures imposed by Thailand through the relevant authorities. The ministry also requested Maldivian travellers to follow the protocols set by the Thai government when travelling to Thailand.
