Public opinion to be sought on removing Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo from Addu City Council

Parliamentarian representing the Addu Meedhoo constituency Rozaina Adam has decided to seek public opinion on removing Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo from the jurisdiction of Addu City Council.

Speaking to PSM News, Parliamentarian Rozaina said she is seeking public opinion on the issue as many residents have voiced their opinion in favour of removing Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo from Addu City Council. The parliamentarian said she has received complaints from constituents who expressed concern over Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo being under the council's jurisdiction. She said residents want Hullhudhoo and Meedhoo to have their own council in order to fast-track development projects. She added that some development projects in the area are being stalled due to Addu City Council.

The parliamentarian representing the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said many residents have voiced their opinion in favour of the decision but the current laws do not allow removing Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo from Addu City Council. Therefore, she said she will submit an amendment to allow the decision to be made if the residents are in favour.
