90 individuals take part in the Practice Parliament programme

The Parliament of the Maldives, in association with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Australian Aid, has conducted the Practice Parliament programme with 90 participants.

The Practice Parliament programme, held from December 5 to 14, was carried out with the aim of providing the opportunity for women and young people to build their capacity and confidence to participate in democratic processes, become change-makers in their communities, and eventually contest for elected positions. During the programme, participants got to experience the parliament chamber and were provided information on parliamentary proceedings. Sessions of the programme were conducted by different parliamentarians and administrative staff of the parliament, with Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed also leading a session on the history of the parliament.

The programme was carried out in two main components, with 40 participants attending the Practice Parliament for Youth and 50 participants attending the Practice Parliament for Women. Individuals with disabilities also took part in the programme.

Recordings of the Practice Parliament were broadcasted by PSM News this week.
