Bangladeshi Prime Minister describes Maldives’ development journey as exemplary

Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina has described the development journey undertaken by the Maldives as exemplary. She made the remarks during her address at the Parliament of the Maldives, as part of her ongoing state visit to the Maldives.

In her address, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina thanked the Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed for giving her the opportunity to deliver an address at the parliament. She noted this year has been particularly fruitful for the Maldives-Bangladesh relations, and expressed interest in advancing the bilateral ties between the two countries in tourism and trade. She described the Maldives’ development journey as exemplary, and expressed hope the two countries can enhance cooperation in bringing development.

In her address, the Bangladeshi prime minister spoke about the history and formation of Bangladesh, and the sacrifice made by the Founding Father of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. She also spoke about her own experience in the political field, having been imprisoned and survived assassination attempts.

Following the address, the Bangladeshi prime minister was gifted with a special artwork displaying the traditional modes of travel between Maldives and Bangladesh.
